First Weeks of Teaching

I have really enjoyed getting to know my class of 4th and 5th graders. It didn't take too long before I knew all of the students' names. All of the students are great and I am enjoying getting to know more about them.

My Cooperating Teacher (CT) is great, and she's been allowing me to teach lessons and do read alouds with the kids. My first read aloud was the book Stellaluna, a book I highly recommend. Today I taught a lesson about the presidential election. My CT gave me the advice to compare how the school district is run (superintendent and principals) to how the country is run (president and his cabinet) when talking about duties of the president. This was great advice! I think it really helped students' understanding.

Hi Lauren -- I'm glad it looks as though your plan to do a shortened overseas experience looks as though it will go through. That seems like a good compromise.
Nice job on getting your blog going too!.
