Weekend

Yesterday was a great day up in Wicklow Mountain National Park and Glendalough. My placement advisor very graciously drove me and two other student teachers out there.

The Wicklow Mountains were amazing. It was pretty cold and misty, but great weather other than that. The heather isn't in bloom there yet (too cold in the mountains) but I hear that later in spring the mountains are full of color. We pulled over and walked around for about ten minutes. There were lots of people walking and hiking around. If you've seen the movie P.S. I Love You, the Wicklow Mountains are where the main character wanders around at the beginning of the film.

Glendalough is a town situated in the Wicklow Mountains. There are some ruins there of a 6th Century monestary and settlement. It's amazing how well some of the structures have stood up. The main feature of the monstary is the Round Tower. The tower was built around 1,000 years ago and was originally used as a bell tower and place of refuge for the monks during attacks.

Today I spent time at the farmer's market in Dun Laoghaire and then went into Dublin to check out Christ Church Cathedral and the Temple Bar area. It was another day of perfect sight-seeing weather!
